 The Roman Road, Part Two
Back to Full Blog

Back for round two of the discussion between me, {idiot}, and my friend from the Religious Right, {RR}, on the salvation plan from the Book of Romans: idiot: Well, the first part of this discussion didn't go so well. What's next? RR: Next is Romans 5:8, which says: "But God demonstrates His love toward us, in that, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." idiot: That sounds a little more encouraging. Last time you said I was going to hell because I was born that way. RR: By "that way", I meant born in sin. idiot: Yeah, I got that. Now you're saying Christ died for me. RR: Yes. idiot: I know about the crucifixion thing, but what does that have to do with me? I wasn't around when that happened. RR: It has everything to do with you. Jesus paid the price for your sins on the cross. idiot: Great! So, I'm not going to hell after all. RR: God opened a door, so that you have a chance to escape the punishment you deserve. idiot: I DESERVE? WHAT DID I DO TO DESERVE BURNING IN FIRE FOR EVER AND EVER? RR: Hey, calm down...You're the one who's supposed to be objective, remember? idiot: hhh...okay. But, you're telling me I'm going to hell, just for being born. Then you say, God threw in an escape clause, by having Jesus die for my sins. What if I never sinned? I never asked Jesus to die, ya gonna blame me for that too? RR: I'm not "blaming" anyone. I'm just telling you what the Bible says. And the Bible says, "All have sinned." idiot: All...So, I guess that means you, too. RR: Yep, me too. That's why I'm so thankful that God gave His Son to die for MY sins, too. Commercial break.

So, beacuse god allowed sin he had to sacrifice himself (Jesus) to himself to appease himself as a part of his grand plan? So glad that is all cleared up. Reminds me of a dog chasing its tail.

Vessel, you bring up a great point. A lot of people have serious problems with the idea of the trinity. Can't wait to bring that one up with my friend!

Please ask your RR friend, what is classified as "sin"? I remember long ago, those first confession years that we had to make up something to have a (sin) to be forgiven. Now THAT'S what I call 'control'.

I love your blog, I consider myself a "recovering Catholic", I am still trying to get over all that nonsense I was taught as a child.

Hi, Nancy! You bring up a good point, talking about "control." It bothers me alot when I flip through the channels, catch CBN, and hear those guys telling their own audience how bad they are. Then they sort of imply that the audience should be more like themselves. Then they ask for money from me.

My mom made me go to a Catholic church when I was little, Gina. So I know sorta what your talking about. The day I stopped going was when I had to hold Roseary Beads, and say the Hail Mary, while staring at a statue. I figured if their was an Almighty God, surely He would have to be "bigger" than that.

Outside of the typical, definitely-has-to-be sins -- like murder -- the Bible goes on to define "sin" as unique to every individual: if you believe something is right, but you don't do it, or you do the opposite, then for you it is a sin.

Yes, I think the whole Bible is good to have read, but Proverbs is a great place to take notes. Check out a verse or two, because the Bible is non-denominational. And Jesus wasn't Catholic either.

Wootay: That's great. So relieved. Since I am the brother to a gal who had been a born again Christian for most of her life then morphed into gayness then other stuff and now feeling OH SO GOOD about all of her choices (including giving her son to the State), now she enjoys being ridden by a horse (since as she says it is natural for her)....this must NOT be a sin for her. And she is still saved.

Seriously, I think your opinion to be really, REALLY, badly, horribly flawed.

Idiot: Thanks for visiting my site. I am concerned for you given most who visit feel ablidged to hammer me about my point of view. You must truly be an idiot since you said such kind things. By the way, is there a membership card that I can get in order to be a certified idiot?

"idiot: I DESERVE? WHAT DID I DO TO DESERVE BURNING IN FIRE FOR EVER AND EVER?"

Exactly, for being born and not knowing because maybe nobody cared to tell you, or because you are not satisfied with the explanations out there, you burn. Orthodoxy, wow.

Did you know that the Orthodox traditions established during the time of Saul (later Paul) are all Pagan? Did you know the Immaculate Conception of Jesus is in fact a very common assertion that was made for many pagan Gods that Saul previously admired? Did you know that December 25th had a pagan meaning that needed to be a part of Christianity? Did you know the Christmas tree was previously a conifer that was worshipped and where women were sacrificed to....to keep the tree gods happy? That is why we still put gifts under the tree and bring the tree indoors....since we don't kill women in the name of Christ on the hillside.

Thanks for your input, Wootay. I may not actually agree with everything RR says. A lot of times I have to scratch my head. I feel for everyone, no matter what their situation. By the way, I only ASK the questions!

Hi, Stealth! Thanks for your support. Yes, I know all about Mithras, and the pagan holidays of Yule, and Ashter. I will be discussing this with RR, eventually.

You know, normally I will not stick my head on these types of issues. But I am willing to enter into a dialouge with you about your beliefs. I am not sure who is "RR" (And what they believe) but I have heard of them. Anyhow, I can help you understand what your friend has told you. I am a believer of what the bible teaches and who Jesus claims to be. As far as the Romans road is concerned, it is supposed to be a tool used by a believer to help him make a case for Christ and Man's Condition. It was never meant to bash people, though when someone feels like they are being judged it doesn't feel too well. The are many theories about who is God, Jesus, The Trinity, etc. What it all comes down to though is what you choose to believe. You are right about free will, we all are able to choose whatever we wish to believe. My only advice would be at this point would be make to sure your choices count because if you choose right then you have nothing to worry about but if not. I am sure you know the answer to this.

Hi, Eternal! Your right, of course. It all boils down to making the right choices, I just want my choices to be well informed.

Yes I COMPLETELY agree. By all means people are entitled to seek and know the truth. I do not think God ever intended for humans to be stupid in making decisions. As a matter of fact, this whole blind faith is a stupid faith. On the contrary, we as humans should exhaust all means in finding the answers to life's questions. My only thing is when you do find out what the truth is will you still believe it? There are many people who ignore the truth for various reasons. There are times when I just do not want to hear the truth but in the end if it makes me become all that I was created to be or it allows me to have my character developed, then so be it I will take it. Though I know it may not always be comfortable.
